The Country Butchers have been playing the Plke in Long Beach
the Last Friday of every month. come on down
3/16/05 Once
again, back on the boards with some news about Mike and Smog,
his old running partner in Tex and the Horseheads. They been digging
up some of the old tunes and plan on playing out as The Horseheads
(called that out of sheer lazinees on thier part to come up with
a name) come check em out at the
Blue Cafe on the 24th of March with The Self Medicators. Also
starting in April on the 20th, Mike will be putting together a
monthly country night featuring a new thing called "The Counrty
Butchers", an all star band of local players including Robbie
Allen from Gypsy Trash, Greg Boaz from The Dave Alvin Band and
Carl Byron from The Sin City All Stars. They will be playing covers
and originals . The night will feature a Special guest segment
with lots of surprises. Put on your boots, dust off that hat and
wade on in. Dont forget your drinkin money.Insults will be free
of charge. This is all for now.
12/23/04 Yes Its been many months
since we,ve updated the news. Heres whats up. The record label
that Mike was signed to, Superscope, has folded. No details needed.
This shit happens in the biz all the time with small indie's.
Mike has opened up Greenhouse music studios in Signal hill. This
is a rehersal facility with fully equiped studios for hourly rental

his new (9 month old) daughter. He;s put together a new group
with Greg Boaz on Bass (Tex and the Horseheads, Dave Alvin), Dave
Kalish on guitar (Ricky Lee Jones), Johnny Wickersham on guitar
(Social Distortion, Caddilac tramps), Carl Byron on keys and accordian,
Jon Sacks on drums. This line up just played out twice during
the holidays and plans to do more in the future. Mikes annual
Wooten center benefit this year was held at DiPiazzas in Long
beach, Ca. Big thanks to Dave Alvin and his band, Peter Case,
and all the members of Thelonuis Monster who played for this event.
